Edgson House

Westminster, London
Westminster Council

Edgson House, Ebury Bridge Road was a top down demolition project, the 8 storey block of flats was on the main Ebury bridge Road

The demolition involved the removal of all internal walls to allow temporary propping of the slabs to facilitate the use of an 8 ton demolition excavator and a gas powered Avante articulated loader on the floor for the demolition of the structure top down.

The initial phase was site set up and overseeing disconnection services for the council, this enabled a protective scaffold to be installed. Temporary works propping regime was employed over 3 floors and the lift shaft was adapted to be used as a drop zone.

A brokk was employed to partially remove the roof and chimney stacks thus enabling the crane to be able to lift into place and land the excavator. on the exposed slab. The excavator then pulverized the brick, concrete struck without the need for breaking therefore reducing noise and dust emissions.

The basement was removed and the whole area was backfilled in layers to make a temporary community area with temporary buildings on raft slabs for the local community.
