Description of Project
Demolition of the existing Empire Warehouse while retaining the external facades of 1 and 2 Bear Gardens.
Located between the Globe Theatre and the Rose Theatre (preserved under the adjacent Rose Court), the project is in an area of archaeological interest. The name ‘Bear Gardens’ originates from the bear baiting pit that existed in the 19th Century on the site. The area is surrounded by popular tourist destinations and narrow cobbled streets, which, together, posed a number of logistical challenges.
